IAN, the Interactive Autism Network, was established in January 2006 at Kennedy Krieger Institute. IAN’s goal is to facilitate research that will lead to advancements in understanding and treating autism spectrum disorders (ASDs). The IAN Community and IAN Research. IAN is funded by Autism Speaks and the Simons Foundation. IAN also has a grant from the National Institutes of Health.
Without leaving home, participants provide information in a secure online setting about diagnosis, behavior, family, environment, and services received. Participating parents report on their child’s progress over time. Adults with ASD share information about their experiences and needs. Researchers from different institutions throughout the country will work with this information to learn about the effect and interaction of factors such as genetics, environment, and treatment, as well as the current situation and needs of those affected by ASD.

Advances in the field of autism research are made as a direct result of the participation of families. However, one of the greatest challenges for researchers has been finding families to take part in research studies. Some research requires participants with or without autism spectrum disorder (ASD), in order to make discoveries that will help.
autismMatch (from the Center for Autism Research) is a tool that quickly and easily connects individuals and families in the Mid-Atlantic and adjacent regions with autism research studies on treatment, diagnosis, genetics, and brain imaging, as well as studies focused on common co-occurring problems related to sleep and anxiety. Children and adults with or without autism are welcome to join autismMatch.

Investigative Drug Study for Children and Adults with Autism Spectrum Disorders Suburban Research Associates in collaboration with Elwyn Genetics Center is conducting a research study for an investigational drug to treat symptoms associated with Autism Spectrum Disorder. This study is sponsored by Seaside Therapeutics and is being conducted by approximately twenty research centers in the U.S. The purpose of this study is to evaluate whether an investigational drug is safe and effective for the treatment of the symptoms of Autism Spectrum Disorders.
Eligible participants will be offered up to approximately 3months of study treatment with investigational drug. During the treatment period, participants will be monitored for side effects and will meet with the study doctor every 2 to 4 weeks. Between office visits, caregivers, parents, or guardians will also receive phone calls from the study doctor.
